First full day of the heat wave today--got up to 92 F/33 C with an awful 75-degree dewpoint, yielding a heat index of 102 F/39 C. So I am VERY grateful that I did not have to walk home in that heat! Thank God for air conditioning!

A small food/convenience store recently opened on my side of the railroad tracks. I stopped by after church to check it out, and got myself the one ingredient I was missing for emerald soup. That makes me happy, since with the heat wave scheduled to go all week, I really need something cool!

Realized recently that I've got a lot to look forward to on the reading front in upcoming months. Terry Brooks has a new Shannara book out in August, Sharon Shinn has a new fantasy out in October, Mercedes Lackey releases another Valdemar book in October, Robin McKinley has a book coming out in November that looks interesting to me, Patricia McKillip has a novel coming in December...and February brings the sixth and final installment of 'Erin Hunter's Seekers series I thoroughly enjoyed the first five books of. Hopefully there will be new reads by Carol Berg, Rachel Neumeier, and Kristin Cashore down the road as well. =)

That's nice about the grocery store. Is it part of a chain? If so, which?

Re railroad tracks...ever checked out the health risk of living near them? Are there significant emissions levels?

Re: railroad tracks
No, looks like a small business on its own. Certainly not a chain.

Wouldn't know. There's already enough loveliness in the air from the dump to the north, and the oil refinery to the south, particularly when there's an air inversion. Trains would just be icing on the cake!

They should pay you to live there!

Re: railroad tracks
That might be reflected in the comparatively lower property taxes... ;)

It sounds like your weather is quite nasty hot this week. To bad this not
the week you are out here.
It would be so nice to escape some of it.
Can you take a latter bus to work so you do the walk latter in the day?

Yes, I'd have loved to escape this week!

Not worth it, since it stays above 90 until after 6 pm.
