Back in Minnesota, and my quirky state greeted me with 90 F/32 C and tornado alarms, but at least it's cooler and calmer today!
My mom and I had a fantastic time our three days in the Monterey/Carmel area. Got to see a pair of Orcas, Risso's Dolphins, and Humpback Whales on our whale-watching trip--as well as the delightful surprise of spotting a loon, just what I had been craving! The weather was beautiful and cool, and we got to enjoy trails and a gorgeous beach area at Garrapata State Park on the northern end of the Big Sur area. We also were blessed to discover the Monterey Farmer's Market, which happens every Tuesday and is more like a festival with all the prepared food and craft booths, as well as the expected produce and plants. (My mom got some gorgeous orchids for a steal!) Carmel-by-the-Sea was exquisite as ever, and I enjoyed it to the hilt not having vertigo this time around. Got to see sea otters and lots of flowers, planted and wild. Can't forget the eating! It was great to get back to the Fishwife and enjoy my meal, and try out some new places I'd like to go back to. Also discovered a big outlet mall at Gilroy that I expect we'll be coming back to. Got clothes there, jewelry at Cannery Row in Monterey, and candies to share with my coworkers at House of Sweets in Carmel. Simply fabulous!
I've uploaded a handful of photos here for the curious.
Thursday was a much-needed lazy day at my parents' house, and Friday was the somewhat harrowing adventure of taking my brother's three oldest kids to the Exploratorium in San Francisco. I love that place, it's just the getting there that's troublesome!
Grateful to have a smooth flight back and find my cats healthy and ready to get out into their enclosure again. It's great to have a day to settle in and catch up with things. And wonderful to know I've got a three-day weekend coming up after this workweek--Memorial Day already!!
