Yesterday was wonderful:

Starting with getting up in the morning to find that my mom had begun reading my avarii essay--the thing on my 'birthday list' I wanted the most. YAY! And then she called in the morning while I opened my gifts from them...which included fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies! =D

The afternoon was fantastic. The Towners invited me over for a birthday meal...and I had the treat of hearing one of my favorite songs on the radio on the way over there: 'I'll Fly Away.' The food was fabulous, and then...they'd gotten me a birthday cake! I haven't had a cake in ages, it feels--and it had my name on it, and spelled right, too! That was so super sweet of them. (It's an ice cream cake with layers of red velvet cake in between, and I have to somehow finish it off this week.)

Lots of talking with them about everything from work issues to the publishing industry to compact fluorescent bulbs. And they had a big screen they could set up and a computer projector, so we sat and looked through all my Florida trip photos for a while. Fun to relive that.

Simply a fabulous afternoon, and in the evening when I got home from church and shopping, I sat and read stories from my Portal Page and did a puzzle and just enjoyed myself until my aunt called (she had tried a few times while I was gone). So closed off the day with talking to her.

And now I'll be off to the zoo. Afterward (if I don't get lost) I'll stop at Chipotle to treat myself to lunch with the gift card my wonderful brother and sister-in-law gave me. I was browsing their website earlier, and really impressed by their ethics in the food they buy, so now I'm even more eager to go!
