Sunday and Monday:
Sunday was the day I was going to go to the Renaissance Festival with my friend Christi. Well, we did go, but...the whole thing turned into such a fiasco it was downright funny. Because of course, after debating over the weather and deciding to go anyway, it had to start raining about the time we found a nice parking spot. We did get left in fairly dry peace for half an hour or so, and since it was wonderfully cool and I had an appetite, I finally screwed up the courage to try the spinach pie this year. Not bad! But from there on--what a mess! Since it had rained a good portion of Saturday already, everything was soft and muddy to start out with. Then when it started pouring in earnest, we had the choice of wading through mud or walking through puddles covered with floating wood-chips, of indeterminate depth. My cloak got sopping and dirty, my costume skirt full of mud on the bottom and heavy with rainwater--just a mess! So after spending some $17-20 for admission, we left after only an hour and a half, cold and filthy. I don't think either of us will be forgetting this travesty of an outing anytime soon! =D
On a better note, Monday was the full moon nearest the autumnal equinox, hence--Autumn Council meeting day! I celebrated this year by reading about the Autumn Council meeting in Hope's Passage, which was a nice change of pace, since I usually think of those in the Geren books or hyarmi stories first. I had fun remembering how much I love Hu-Halle and Haliuk. =)
I'm very sorry to hear that your outing didn't go so well. I suppose that the bright side is that it has been much cooler for you.
Not long until Autumn for you now! It was very lovely to hear about how you celebrate your stories.
Yes, for me! Poor Christi hasn't had much luck the last few years wearing her Arabian dancer's costume, because it's been too cool the weeks we go. I'm glad she didn't even put it on Sunday.
It's going to be warmer the rest of this week, but the nights will still be nice, and it's a treat starting to see splashes of fall color in places.
I love the Council meetings, and those I can figure out easily without calendar issues, unlike, say, Geren's birthday.
I hope your week is going well!
Geren's birthday has calendar issues? That seems a little strange. I would have thought it would be more difficult to figure out the Council meetings because at least Geren's birthday is a static date.
Sorry to hear about Christi. Perhaps next year will be warmer. And good luck with cleaning up your costume. I hope it hasn't been spoiled.
They use a lunar calendar, so the days per month and months per year vary, and jump about horrendously. I'm insuffiently motivated because Geren doesn't celebrate a birth-date anyway. Council meetings are easy since the equinox is fixed in our calendar, though it jumps about in theirs (whereas their full moon day generally falls around the 15th).
Here's hoping! Hopefully some year she won't be so busy in August we can go on an earlier week. I was able to get most of the mud out of my skirt though it's still drying two days later, and my costume top didn't get dirty. I wore junk shoes, thankfully, and I left my mask behind because I didn't want to risk it getting wet, but I'm still afraid to take a look at my cloak. =P Still, could be much worse!
