Wednesday was the day my mom, my aunt, and I went to Chincoteague. It was quite lovely.
It was so neat going to this place I'd known about since I was quite young, thanks to the famous Marguerite Henry children's books about the Chincoteague pony Misty and her heirs.
We actually spent far more time visiting the shops of the town than in the Chincoteague National Wildlife Reserve. Much fun was had by all in stimulating the local economy, despite a few intervals of rain. So much gorgeous art!
When we did enter the reserve, we got to see some of the famous wild ponies some ways from the road. Then off to the beach, for another bit of cloudy relaxation by the sea.
Enjoyed getting closer views of the numerous laughing gulls and the surf. Got to see my first Glossy Ibises when we did the wildlife loop drive before leaving.
Also grateful to have my uncle's GPS along (he stayed back for home improvement projects) as I did the driving today, and I'm still quite shaky at finding his home out in the boondocks. Our only wrong turn was after passing the gate, when we turned the GPS off and promptly drove past his driveway!
