Weekend's been too busy and too fast, but things have been going well:
The Newport post office reopened last Monday! It will be nice to not have to do all my mailing only on Saturdays.
Enjoyed the treat of spotting a Pileated Woodpecker on my way to church Saturday, and then Christi and I seeing a Bald Eagle flying along a lake shore on our way to the Renaissance Festival today.
It has been a marvel to have the mighty Mississippi River rise to flood stage this week due to the horrific storm that drenched 1/3 of the state last week. I'm used to floods like this, on such a big river, only in the spring, and not the autumn. Also glad it didn't close all the highways into Shakopee!
Christi and I went to the Renaissance Festival today (our first time together since getting rained out in 2008) and we had a fabulous time. The weather was sunny and perfect--got up to 60 F/16 C, so I could at least wear my cloak until 1 pm, and the ground was neither a mud mess, nor horribly dusty. I wasn't much in the mood for taking photos, so just took two that amused me. The gargoyle store I love ogling (got a $5 gargoyle there this year) had a retake on Michelangelo's 'David' that Christi and I found just hilarious (warning: probably not mom-friendly). And then we got a kick out of someone wearing a costume just slightly out of place.
Found a treat too--spotted a framed and matted piece by 'Goldenwolf' (whose work I've admired but never purchased before) that I couldn't resist because it so reminded me of book 5 chapter 20 I'm currently working on. (Those curious can see the image here.) And I got to have my spinach pie, and apple cider, corn on the cob, deep-fried cheese curds...it was a great time. =)
Not that many this year! I think I saw an immature one Saturday on the way back from the vet, but that's been it--it was 2009 when I saw lots of them. This year it's been my coworker Dawn seeing them all the time!
Yes, the weather was a real blessing!
