A couple long full days:

Monday at the State Fair was fantastic! Beautiful sunny day with low humidity, lots of things to see and lots of food. Got to watch some of the stock dogs trials (it was hilarious when some of the sheep succeeded in escaping the rottweiler trying to herd them by jumping through an opening into the crowd and finding their way over to the other sheep!) Watched an Australian Shepherd demo, some great trampoline artists (one an Olympic hopeful), a neat DNR K9 demonstration with fun stories of how they use their dogs to catch poachers, and our perennial favorite, the Last Chance Forever birds of prey show, which was bigger and better than ever this year. Got to enjoy corn dogs and split a delicious strawberry malt, corn on the cob, deep fried cheese curds, honey lemonade, the new deep fried apple pie with cinnamon ice cream, and the traditional bucket of cookies purchase to bring to share at work.

Tuesday's weather made me very grateful we got to the fair on Monday, but between the showers, we managed a little kayaking at a new lake, got some fresh local corn on the cob and apples, visited the Como conservatory and zoo (and delighted in a baby flamingo with black knobby legs and oversized feet). Then back to my great-aunts for a fantastic dinner topped off by homemade lemon meringue pie.

Very glad to have a comparatively relaxing day at work today and tomorrow, before heading off to the Black Hills Friday morning.

I find the idea of a rottweiler herding sheep oddly funny.

Glad to hear that you had such a wonderful time and some good company to enjoy it with. Have a good trip!

It was! Nearly all the dogs competing were Border Collies, so I get excited to see another breed. I think the sheep found him a little too traumatizing, though.

It was a fantastic day, and only more wonderful since I never got to the State Fair in 2010.
