It's been a couple nice long days at my uncle's house in Virginia. It was a wonderful place on my last visit, but now that it's fully completed and decorated, it is even more delightful.
Smooth travel for everyone, and a nice drive up on Thursday evening. It was doubly sweet for being such a delightful contrast to the wretched congestion in southern California.
Not near as many birds around my uncle's place as on my last visit in June three years back, but it was a treat to see a bald eagle fly over as we walked along a pier Friday, and then spot an osprey with a good-sized fish in its claws on Saturday.
Made a pair of visits to private Cedar Island on Friday and Saturday. Happy with my haul of seashells, and very much looking forward to sharing them with my coworkers.
All sorts of cousins and second cousins and relations descended for the weekend--16 of us from Friday evening, hitting a top number of 19 Saturday evening. The food has been fabulous. But I am definitely enjoying the smaller group now, and my ears are savoring the comparative quiet!
