Today was my autumn outing day:
Unfortunately the forecast got changed at the last moment, so it was gloomy all morning, but at least not rainy like yesterday. My first destination was Frontenac State Park, and despite the clouds, it was lovely there. The oaks were at their peak splendor and it made for a gorgeous couple miles of walking. I took more obscure trails to avoid the 400 ft/122 m climb down to the river, as I found out on a prior trip how un-fun that is when the path is covered with wet, slippery leaves. So went near a farm and got to see a lovely pale horse instead!
Then I went to the Red Wing Fall Festival of the Arts for my second time. Quite the opposite of last year, when I roasted, because this year it was damp, cloudy, and windy, and everyone was freezing, especially the poor sellers sitting in their booths! Wound up getting a few things--the first being one that just screamed that it had to be a gift for my mom, even though I wasn't planning on Christmas shopping! Also got a lovely glass small bowl and a trivet from an artist who lives in the adjacent suburb.
And then my last fling was at the Pepin Heights Apple Orchard store, where I got a frozen apple pie to share with my coworkers sometime, fresh-pressed apple cider, an apple fritter...and altogether too many other yummy things because they had samples out. =)
