Saturday morning, after doing my food shopping, I headed west to Afton State Park. It's been a while since I've been there, and I am very glad I went. Autumn color is definitely at peak now, and the whole park was amazing. I wanted to get to all my favorite parts, and I almost did--to the tune of over 9.5 miles of walking. It's been quite a while since I went on a hike that long, and I took a ton (over 130) photos in the process. Not only was I blessed by the amazing cooler, and the coolness that meant I could walk forever without my feet swelling up as they do when it's warm, but I got to see a bunch of migrating bluebirds (10 or more). On top of that--I got photos and movies of a BLACK SQUIRREL! I love those things, they remind me so much of my Black Prince! =D What a blessing, all around!
Just driving anywhere this weekend has been a jaw-dropping experience. I ran some errands after church Sunday, and found my way over to a tiny park I'd discovered when I got my car oil changed last spring. Got some wonderful photos there as well, and savored an autumn to remember. This month has been exceptionally sunny for October, an the oaks are amazingly vivid--as well as having more species change colors at the same time than in other falls. I've gotten some amazing photos over this weekend, but even they don't do it justice, since they can't convey the sheer scope/expanse of the glory around here.
On the indoor front, I finally finished watching the first season of Elementary that I got out from the local library, and was quite blown away by the finale. What a treat it was, and I didn't have to spend a cent!
Thanks to the last episode being 90 minutes rather than 44 as I expected, I didn't quite get to finish my short story Sunday night, but I did make a heap of progress over the weekend that I'm very pleased with. It was fun to drag old Hurr into making an appearance again, and learn a little more about him in the process, as well as the delight of getting to spend time with Giria again. =)
