A few things to be glad about today...
First, I made it home! The heat wave is here in force, it was 88 F/31 C for my miserable walk home. I am grateful it was not real humid and that there was some wind, because between the heat and the monthly misery, it was a bit of an ordeal. The whole week is going to be like this...but at least the monthly crud won't last that long.
I had been dreading coming home today. Because a large, 50ish pound package would be waiting for me (a full-sized futon mattress), and I was not anticipating how much fun it would be getting something that big and bulky and heavy inside with the heat and the monthlies. But, THANK GOD, it was packaged so tight and well I was able to just roll it through the door: flop, flop, flop, just like that! Hurrah! I got it set up without too much pain, but I'll wait until a stronger day to try to get the old mattress out to the dumpster...
As it is, I'll have long since forgotten both of the above events before I forget this one. This morning I finished rereading Terry Brooks' First King of Shannara. Now, I know plenty of people disdain Brooks' writing, but I don't care what they think, seeing as he's the writer of one of my lifetime favorite (published) characters--number 3 on my list, in fact. Well, not-yet-Druid Allanon shows up as a little boy toward the end of that book, and rereading it reminded me of just how much I adore that guy. So I had to take a spin around the internet in the feeble hope I might turn up some fanart somewhere. It's pathetic that my own pathetic picture of Allanon shows up in the second page of image results (along with a bunch of a fish photos!) but today I did strike gold. I found a professional artist out there with no less than SIX pictures with Allanon in them on his webpage.
Eeee! Eeee! Eeee! And he gives permission to use them privately, so I have now added my three favorite to my rotating wallpaper collection. Oh happy, happy day!
(And I promise myself that one day I will do Allanon better justice in my own gallery. Not like I didn't draw him 20 times in college or anything...)
Bleargh, walking home in that sort of heat would make me melt too. I hope you are sure to carry a bottle of water with you!
Thank goodness the packagers of that futon mattress made the package "rollable." ^_^ I need to work on making my pallet on the floor a bit more comfortable. I need to move stuff around, put down more cushioning, etc.
I hope to see some new pics in your gallery!
Heh, even if I did, I wouldn't touch it. I need a few hot, sweaty miles to overcome my aversion to the taste of lukewarm water...and then I'll only manage a couple mouthfulls.
They packed it really well--I was impressed! It started expanding violently when I was cutting the cords, but Shado had fun chasing them.
Not anytime soon, I fear.

eeks! definitley a good thing that it isn't too humid yet...that's the worst!
you seem to have such an amazing reading list -- i'll have to get advice from you someday when i get back into reading books...=)
i hope it's a cooler day for you!
It was pretty nasty, I'm so grateful it wasn't humid then or now (88 last I checked).
I'll check back with you in 20 years when the kids are in college and you have loads of reading time on your hands. ;)
Alas, no cooler, and no relief in sight before Sunday...but the monthly misery isn't so bad today, so that's a blessing!
Haven't actually slept on it, but it seems just fine. It has a lump in the middle still from being folded up.
The humidity makes a BIG difference! I am glad that it's staying low so far, though my flowers are not happy. Too fast a shift for them, I think.
