I just realized there is a bright side to the current drought in my area--a blessed lack of mosquitoes. This was brought to my attention when I went out to water my garden on the late side (8 pm) and attracted a few hungry customers. It must be due to the storms of the last two weeks, for it's been quite a while since I've been thusly harassed.

Hot and no rain for the foreseeable forecast...so I think my new 'friends' will be gone soon...those friends anyway, not the grasshoppers.

Oooh, and my family might enjoy this intriguing story about grasshopper plagues in Minnesota and divine intervention in 1877. (The locust species that caused this devastation is now, amazingly, extinct.)

A lack of mosquitoes is a blessing indeed. When I was younger I used to be allergic to their bites, but thankfully I've grown out of it.

Ouch! That sounds awful. Did they swell up or hurt worse than for non-allergic people, then? I'm glad you grew out of it--that would certainly spoil outdoor fun in a lot of places. =P

Thank you for posting the story about the grasshopper plagues.
OUR GOD CAN DO MARVELOUS WORKS WHEN WE ARE WILLING TO TURN TO HIM. It was such an encouragement.
I hope we as a nation remember that. SD

Glad to see you read it! I'm so impressed the governor did that, and the people of Minnesota were so earnest. I don't want to imagine what it will take to wake us out of our blind arrogance in this century.
